Peaches are a sweet, juicy summer-time favourite – but did you know that peaches are apart of the rose family? The trees produce beautiful pink flowers, similar to cherry blossoms, as well as the delicious stone fruit that we know and love.

Yellow peaches tend to be firmer than white peaches, so are generally better to take out and about if you need a snack on the go. Yellow peaches are enjoyed for their more complex profile, due to higher acid levels in the fruit, as compared to white nectarines. They also have more acid than white peaches, so are great for jam-making. Like all stone fruit, peaches are in season during the warmer months of the year.

Our peaches may have cosmetic blemishes from unpredictable weather or the harsh summer sun, which major supermarkets will not accept. These only affect the fruit visually, and do not have any impact on the taste or nutrients, so we are more than happy to enjoy our delicious, if somewhat ugly, peaches.

Nutritional Benefits

Peaches are a good source of vitamin A and C, with plenty of fibre for gut health.

If not yet ripe, store peaches at room temperature, out of direct sunlight, until they soften — this usually takes 2 to 3 days. A ripe fruit will yield a bit when pressed gently. Storing ripe stone fruit in the crisper drawer will prolong its eating life, but once ripe, peaches will keep for no more than about five days (best eaten within two to three days).

Kate’s pick – Early in its season I love to use these in baking, they stand up really well to the heat and sweeten as they bake.
