Valencia Oranges are a summer variety of citrus. They are spectacularly sweet and juicy, and while not as pretty as the winter navels, are great for seasonings, marinades and juices.
A good orange doesn’t have to be perfect in color – skin discolouration and scratches might affect the appearance of an orange, but they do not impact the taste or nutritional benefits. This is particularly evident when it comes to Valencias, as they often have a greenish colouring to their skins. This is natures way of protecting the fruit from our harsh summer sun. Larger stores often import navel oranges through summer as they are considered to be more attractive to customers because of their uniform colour. We don’t sell imported fruit and instead prefer to support the farmers of the Mildura regions (and others) who supply Australia with these high quality – if a little green – oranges.
Oranges, like most citrus fruits, are a great source of Vitamin C – a crucial nutrient for the immune system – and are also high in many different antioxidants.
Oranges can be stored at room temperature, or in the crisper section of your fridge. They will keep for a week if stored at room temperature, and longer if stored in the fridge.
