Grapefruits are a tart and tangy citrus fruit. Ruby grapefruits have a pink to red flesh, and are a particularly sweet and juicy variety. The fruit is thought to have been the result of a natural cross breeding between oranges and pomelos. They’re perfect for adding to refreshing salads, pairing with protein in marinades, or simply juicing.
Our grapefruits might have cosmetic imperfections on the skin, or be an odd shape, but we love them just the same. A good grapefruit doesn’t have to be perfect in color – skin discolouration and scratches might affect the appearance of a grapefruit, but they do not impact the taste or nutritional benefits.
Grapefruits, like most citrus fruits, are a great source of Vitamin C – a crucial nutrient for the immune system – and are also high in a type of antioxidants known as carotenoids.
Grapefruits can be stored at room temperature, or in the crisper section of your fridge. They will keep for a week if stored at room temperature, and longer if stored in the fridge.
